Stop Trying to Save ‘The Marriage’
Are you trying to save your marriage…or your relationship with your spouse? Think again what you are fighting for. Your marriage or your spouse? Because even though we use those terms synonymously, those two are not necessarily the same thing. It’s time to stop trying to save ‘the marriage.’
Who is the Boss of You?
We know that toxic relationships can deform us. They can cause us to lose who we truly are, the best parts of ourselves can remain immature, and undernourished. So how do you heal that part of yourself?
Would You Invite a Burglar to House Sit?
When is a thief no longer a thief? When he says, “I’ve changed! I haven’t robbed a home in three weeks now, and I’m ready to show you why you can trust me with your home!”? Would you invite the young burglar to house sit for you?
Christmas in No Man’s Land
As we sing the carols in our trenches this year, will we be the ones to remember the Savior who left heaven to cross into no man’s land with terms of peace? Will we peak over the fortifications, call out to the other side and offer lasting peace that only comes through Christ?
The Tree that Didn’t Die (Video)
In this video, BCA counselor, Joe Leavell shares a story from his backyard to help encourage those who may be doing all the right things but still struggling to see any meaningful difference in their lives.
Thankful for You
Here at Biblical Counseling of Arizona, we are thankful for each of you! We are honored that you have trusted us with your stories and allowed us to point you towards the wisdom of the Gospel of Christ through God’s Word for over seven years now.
Hug the Porcupine
As I got to know the couple, how the Gospel showed up in their situation became evident. I told the husband that because of Christ, he needed to hug his porcupine. He looked at me like I was a bit weird (which I am). I then went on to explain how the Gospel works.
Anxiety and a Lost Toddler

Why am I Not Enough for You? Understanding Pornography Addiction
When a man indulges in pornography, he is indeed making a choice to cheat. He is not only choosing porn over his wife; he is choosing porn over Christ. The porn addict is saying with his actions that Jesus is not enough.
Choosing Option C in Your Marriage
Just like Adam and Eve sewed fig leaves to try to fix their problems, many counselors and therapists will give a lot of tips and tools on how to communicate better, how to have better sex, how to have a better spouse before the weekend, how to do, do, do. Yet for all of our best efforts, we will fall frustratingly short of God’s ultimate design and purpose for marriage.
Defending the Temple
How much value do we place on the sanctity of God’s Temple? While the children of Israel were literally willing to stack their bodies up in heaps to defend the Temple in Jerusalem, have we even settled the basic question of who owns our bodies? Have we allowed our enemies an open door to what is sacred?
What’s the Big Deal? It was Just…
No sin is only a ‘just’ in any sense of the word against a Holy God. Saying our words and actions are no big deal is to proclaim that your view of God is so small that you see punching him in the face as a “no biggie.”
When Jesus Wept
Two simple words in a story in the middle of the Gospel of John, but what led to those words and the weight that they carry is astounding!
If Jesus is Enough, Why Do I Need Counseling?
If in our darkest moments it is God who we need, and specifically it is Jesus who wants us to come to Him with our burdens, then why would we ever need anyone else? Why do we need the church?
Dear Alexa…I Mean, Dear God.
We would take little comfort from our smart device if we said, “Alexa, I don’t understand why life is so hard” and it responded, “It’s OK. I’m here. I’m enough for you.” If those same words feel equally hollow when it’s Jesus, it might be an indication that you have been treating him as a smart device and not as the dearest of friends.
The Closest of All Relationships
God made a specific point to express His love and desire for relationship with us in various ways in order to ensure we could comprehend some measure to the complete depth of His affections towards us.
After Divorce: A Counselee’s Story

The Miraculous and the Mourning - Struggling with Survivor’s Guilt

Perfect Peace for Moms
Jesus left us His peace and all those who find Him can experience that peace.
Yes, even us moms.
When God Seems as Absent as Baby Formula (A Meditation on Psalm 42)
Think of the mother going from store to store with a crying baby who is hungry, desperately searching for formula, and coming up empty. Psalm 42 is this kind of cry of frustrated desperation rather than some warm teenage infatuation.
